The Petzl Nao headtorch is the first headtorch to use Petzl's Reactive Light Technology. Simply put, a sensor on the headtorch detects the ambient light around and automatically adapts the strength of the beam accordingly.

In the self-adjusting Reactive Lighting mode, the beam adapts instantly and automatically: full power for distance vision, lighting up tracks and features at night, medium power for moving around, or low power for proximity lighting and map reading. This mode optimizes battery use and therefore increases the burn time of the headtorch.

When looking at an object at close range, for example, such as your map or when tying a knot, the beam widens and becomes much less powerful so as not to blind you. When walking or running, the beam intensifies and gets more powerful as you look at the path in front of you, lighting your way. If you raise your head looking for a path marker or a belay or feature on your climb for example, the beam maximises to it's brightest setting and becomes more focused.

The Nao can also be set to run on Constant Lighting Mode where the beam is set to one brightness until the battery starts to run out of charge at which time the beam decreases significantly.

Customising the NAO headtorch

The Nao Head Torch can be connected to a computer using Petzl OS software. This allows the user to maximise the NAO's potential. Thanks to customised performance, the headlamp's lighting power, burn time and distance can be adjusted. You can choose from a range of pre-configured activity profiles (trail running, mountaineering, etc.) or for more versatility, personal profiles may also be created according to your needs. Once the profiles are loaded into the Nao, they are easily accessed at any time.

You are able to save up to four activity profiles, whether pre-configured by Petzl or entirely customised, and have them ready to activate directly on the headtorch when needed.
