The Beal Joker 9.1mm DryCover 60m has been tested and conforms to all 3 dynamic rope standards, so its not just a single climbing rope, but also a half rope and a twin rope! Most climbers will use this on its own as an ultra-light, ultra-smooth running single rope in times when minimal weight and drag are important, but you have the versatility to pair it up with a half rope or another Joker for more traditional climbing without much of a weight penalty. The GoldenDry coating ensures limited weight gain in wet conditions, prevents rope thickening, improves rope-running through biners and belay devices, and improves abrasion resistance in normal climbing use. This climbing rope passes the Sharp Edge test when used as a half or twin.

Beal Joker Review by Steve McClure

"For travelling the Joker is the perfect rope, awesome for onsight sport climbing, but also great for trad climbing, and a doubled 70 will do for most UK trad routes. Basically one rope for everything. It's light too, so you can even take it on a ryanair flight!"

Beal Joker Review by Andy Cave

"'The Joker is a great rope in the mountains, it is a full weight rope but light and can be useful in so many situations from glacial travel to steep snow, rock and ice…"

Beal GoldenDry

Every filament of the sheath and the core of GoldenDry ropes is treated with a water repellent chemical before the rope is manufactured. This chemical covering is polymerised at high temperature. The durability of this treatment is given by the polymerisation, but also because of the individual treatment of each filament before the rope is made. A GoldenDry rope is a rope with the core Dry treated, and a sheath of Dry Cover.

Key features:
  • Very limited weight gain in wet conditions
  • Prevents the rope thickening too much
  • Improved rope-running through karabiners and belay devices
  • Improved abrasion resistance in normal climbing use

The UNICORE process bonds the sheath of the rope to the core. This prevents sheath slippage, but also helps to keep the structural integrity of the rope if it is cut or damaged.

Key features:
  • Sheath slippage is eliminated
  • Allows safe escape should the sheth be cut
  • Rope cutting is easy: no hot knife required
  • Improved rope-running through karabiners and belay devices
  • Reduction of shrinkage in water by more than 50%
